Profile

Professional

I am an assistant professor of interior design in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University. I hold an MFA Interior Design from Florida State University. My professional experience is interdisciplinary in nature and includes the design of residential and commercial interiors, web and print, graphics and interfaces, exhibits, visual merchandising, stage and film productions.

I am a member of CHEC, EDRA, FCVW, IDEC, and SHE. I am a USGBC chapter friend and serve as the Chair of the Emerging Faculty Network and Social Networking Chair of the Communications Committee for IDEC. Read my CV for a more extensive report of my work.

Research

My research specialization is environmental symbology – personal, social, cultural, and mythic meanings of space – and emerging technologies – symbolic aspects of human-computer interactions, design communication technologies, design-related applications of virtual environments and augmented reality.

Human Being

WYSIWYG – What you see is what you get. I enjoy reading. I like to stash books all over the house for incidental quiet moments. I like learning new things, even if it means admitting I don’t know the answer. I enjoy spending time in nature, listening to the soft sounds of the woods. I will even go slightly out of my way to step on crunchy-looking leaves. I have been called “one smart cookie” and “psychobabbling fool of a Took” and I’m really not sure what either of those descriptions mean. I have a husband, Charlie, and a dog, Ando, and a very big extended family.
